Our journey began with a simple but powerful realization: the deep bond between humans and animals is often overlooked in times of crisis. Founded by Jane Doe and John Smith, Safe Landings was born out of a need to address this gap, ensuring that no one has to face the tough decision of leaving a pet behind in dangerous situations.
Jane, a former police officer, and John, a retired firefighter, spent their careers on the frontlines of emergencies. Time and again, they witnessed individuals trapped in cycles of domestic violence, desperate to leave but unable to do so because of their beloved pets that they refuse to abandon. Most temporary shelters for people fleeing abuse cannot accept animals, leaving many victims with an impossible choice: stay in danger or escape without their animal companions.
For the safety of both the people and pets involved, we have changed the names and identifying details of our founders. Protecting privacy is essential to safeguarding the animals and the individuals who seek our help.
The heartbreaking reality is that abusers often use pets as tools of control—threatening to harm them or even abusing them as a way to keep victims from leaving. Studies show that many victims delay leaving abusive situations because they fear for their animals’ safety. We believe that no one should ever have to make such a choice.
That belief sparked the creation of Safe Landings. We exist to provide safe haven for animals when their families are in crisis, ensuring they are cared for, loved, and protected until they can be reunited. By safeguarding their pets, we empower survivors to take the steps they need to reclaim their safety and rebuild their lives, knowing their animals are safe.
At Safe Landings, our mission is to provide safe shelter for animals affected by domestic violence. This offers victims the peace of mind to leave their dangerous situations knowing their cherished pets are cared for with love, compassion and dignity.
We are creating refuges where animals can heal while their owners transition to safety, empowering survivors to reclaim their lives without fear for their beloved companions.
We strive for a future where no individual has to choose between their own safety and that of their beloved pet.
Our approach is guided by deep empathy and understanding, ensuring every action we take supports the well-being of the animals.
